The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, Habila Ibrahim, over attempted motorcycle theft and impersonation of a Police Inspector in Girei Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje disclosed this in a statement October 13, 2026.

“On 10th October 2026, operatives of Girei Divisional Police Headquarters, while on crime-prevention patrol along the Girei–Yola Road, responded to a distress call and intercepted the suspect while attempting to steal a Boxer motorcycle belonging to Alhaji Musa of Wuro Dole, Girei,” the statement read.

During initial interrogation he identified himself as Inspector Yakubu Yusuf, claiming to be attached to the Border Patrol Unit at the Sahuda–Cameroon border, in an attempt to evade arrest.

He was found in possession of a fake Police warrant card and a complete Police uniform.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect’s true identity is Habila Ibrahim, reportedly from Blue House, Kasuwan Gada, Vimtim, Mubi North.

He is suspected to have been involved in motorcycle theft and impersonating security personnel to facilitate theft and defraud members of the public within Girei, Mubi North and Mubi South Local Government Areas.

The following exhibits were recovered from the suspect: one fake Police warrant card bearing the name of Inspector Yakubu Yusuf, one complete set of Police uniform and one master key suspected to have been used for motorcycle theft.

The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc, commended the operatives of Girei Division for their vigilance and prompt response, which led to the arrest.

He warned criminal elements against impersonating Police officers or other security personnel, stressing that such acts constitute serious criminal offences.

The CP further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report anyone wearing Police uniform and engaging in suspicious activities to the nearest Police station or through the Command’s emergency channels.

The suspect remains in Police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

“The Adamawa State Police Command reiterates its commitment to protecting lives and property and urges residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support the fight against crime,” the statement added.
