The Ogun State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen unregistered Lexus ES350 in Ondo State, months after it was taken at gunpoint in the Ogijo area.

The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Ogun State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen unregistered Lexus ES350 saloon car. The vehicle was located in Ondo State, marking the conclusion of a months-long investigation into an armed robbery that occurred earlier this year.

Details of the Incident

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the vehicle was stolen on September 15, 2026. The incident took place at approximately 2:00 a.m. in the Ogijo area of Ogun State. Authorities reported that the red Lexus, which lacked registration plates at the time, was taken at gunpoint.

Following the initial report, the Officer-in-Charge of the SWAT squad, SP Obeh Eneye, initiated an investigation under the directive of the command. The recovery was the result of what officials described as sustained, intelligence-led efforts by the operatives.

Ongoing Police Investigation

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ogun State Command, confirmed the recovery in a statement issued on Friday. He noted that the vehicle has been transported back to the Ogun State Police Command headquarters.

While the vehicle has been secured, the investigation remains active. The police are currently working to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the robbery, as well as to locate other property reported stolen during the same incident. No arrests have been publicly announced at this time.

Official Recommendations for Vehicle Owners

Following the recovery, the Commissioner of Police for the Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the SWAT team for their professionalism. In his remarks, the Commissioner highlighted the importance of vehicle registration as a security measure.

The Command issued the following advice to the public:

  • Vehicle Registration: Owners are urged to ensure their vehicles are duly registered and display valid license plates. The police noted that proper registration is critical for ownership verification and the effective tracing of stolen property.
  • Community Vigilance: Residents are encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the police promptly.
  • Intelligence Cooperation: The Command emphasized that providing credible information to law enforcement is essential for successful, intelligence-led operations.

The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing offenders and recovering stolen property across state lines.
