Jigawa State police have successfully recovered two stolen motorcycles and apprehended a suspect following a series of incidents in Malam Madori and Kiyawa.
The Jigawa State Police Command has reported progress in its ongoing efforts to curb motorcycle theft across the state, announcing the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect and the recovery of two stolen vehicles. The details were confirmed in a statement provided by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shisu Adam.
Arrest in Malam Madori
The investigation began following a report filed on October 19, 2026, regarding a red Boxer motorcycle that had been stolen in Malam Madori town at approximately 5 a.m. Law enforcement officials initiated an immediate investigation into the incident, which led to the apprehension of 24-year-old Saleh Muhammad, a resident of Dunari town.
According to the police statement, the suspect was detained at Kashin Dila Junction. Authorities successfully recovered the stolen motorcycle during the arrest. The suspect has since been arraigned in court to face prosecution for the alleged theft.
Recovery of Abandoned Property in Kiyawa
In a separate operation, police officers attached to the Shuwarin Division recovered an abandoned red Hunter motorcycle in Gwazaye village, located within the Kiyawa Local Government Area. The vehicle, which lacked a registration number, was discovered on October 19, 2026, and subsequently transported to the local police station for further investigation.
On October 21, 2026, a 32-year-old resident of Tunubu village in Jahun Local Government Area approached the Shuwarin Police Division to claim the property. The individual provided documentation asserting ownership and explained that the motorcycle had been stolen from his residence while he was asleep on October 18, 2026.
The police verified the claimant’s documentation by cross-referencing the chassis and engine numbers of the recovered motorcycle. Following the confirmation of ownership, the vehicle was released to the owner on bond. The police have stated that investigations remain active as they continue to search for the individuals responsible for the theft of the Hunter motorcycle.
Police Call for Public Cooperation
The Commissioner of Police for Jigawa State, CP Tijjani Murtala, has emphasized the command’s dedication to addressing criminal activity, specifically targeting the rise in motorcycle thefts. The Commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
Providing credible information is described by the command as a vital component in their strategy to prevent and detect crime throughout the state. As of the latest update, no further information regarding the suspects involved in the second theft case has been released.
Conclusion
The recent actions by the Jigawa State Police highlight the importance of timely reporting and documentation in the recovery of stolen property.
