Eight Dead After Gunman Kills Family Members and Friend in Erie, Pennsylvania
Authorities in Erie, Pennsylvania, are investigating a mass shooting that left eight victims dead, including two young children and a pregnant woman, before the 45-year-old suspect died by suicide.

A 45-year-old man shot and killed seven relatives and an acquaintance at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday evening before taking his own life, local authorities reported. The victims included two young children and an expectant mother, marking one of the deadliest episodes of violence in the city’s recent history.
How the Incident Unfolded
According to Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah, emergency personnel were dispatched to the residential area on Friday evening following multiple reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered two women dead in the street outside the property.
Surveillance recordings reviewed by investigators captured the moments leading up to the initial deaths. The footage reportedly showed the two women arriving at the property in visible distress, attempting to alert neighbors and gain access to the house. The gunman subsequently emerged from the residence, shot both women, and retreated back inside.
Officers established a perimeter around the home and repeatedly instructed the suspect to surrender. After the suspect barricaded himself inside, law enforcement eventually entered the building and found him deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Victims and Ongoing Inquiries
Police confirmed that seven of the eight victims were directly related to the shooter, while the eighth person was a friend of the family. The specific motive behind the attack has not been publicly identified by investigators.
Those found dead inside the home included a one-year-old girl, a five-year-old boy, and an eight-months-pregnant woman. The remaining victims, consisting of both men and women, ranged in age from 19 to 51. Authorities have not yet made the individual identities of the victims public.
City Response and Support Efforts
The scale of the tragedy prompted municipal officials to address the emotional fallout across the local area. Erie Mayor Daria Devlin spoke to reporters on Saturday, acknowledging the profound shock experienced by neighbors, families, and emergency crews.
“Many people across our community are hurting today: the neighbors who witnessed what happened, the families and friends of those who were killed, the officers and first responders who answered these calls, and others struggling to make sense of something so terrible,” Devlin said.
The mayor pledged ongoing municipal assistance for those grieving, noting that while the loss cannot be undone, the city will support the surviving relatives. Additionally, local reporting indicated that specialized counseling services have been mobilized for the emergency responders and police officers who attended the scene.
Investigators continue to process evidence from the residence as the broader Erie community begins to navigate the aftermath of the tragedy.
