2027 Elections: Sule Lamido Urges Voters to Contrast PDP and APC Records

Olamide

Former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido has warned Nigerians against repeating past voting choices, urging the electorate to compare PDP and APC governance ahead of the 2027 elections.

Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has called on Nigerian citizens to re-evaluate their political choices ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging voters not to repeat what he characterized as past mistakes in electing the All Progressives Congress (APC). Lamido delivered the remarks at the party’s state headquarters in Dutse during the inauguration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council, as reported by Daily Post Nigeria.

A Call to Contrast Past and Present Governance

Lamido, who is a founding member of the PDP, urged the public to conduct a critical assessment of past PDP governments and place those records side by side with the performance of the current APC administration before deciding on their leaders in 2027. He asserted that the ruling administration has fallen short of public expectations, emphasizing that addressing the challenges facing both Jigawa State and the wider country requires seasoned and competent leadership.

Focusing on social infrastructure, the former governor alleged that citizens have experienced marked regressions under APC rule, pointing directly to declines in key public sectors. According to Lamido, Jigawa is contending with substantial obstacles in healthcare delivery, with hospitals reportedly lacking adequate medical services and basic pharmaceuticals. He further stated that educational standards have continued to decline across the state and nationwide.

PDP’s Position in Contemporary Politics

Reflecting on the evolution of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, Lamido characterized the PDP as the principal surviving institution from the return to democracy in 1999. He noted that numerous prominent political figures across the country began their careers within the PDP, asserting that while many competing political formations have dissolved over the preceding two and a half decades, the PDP has maintained institutional continuity.

Campaign Commitments Ahead of 2027

Looking forward to upcoming electoral cycles, Lamido told party supporters that the PDP is preparing comprehensive campaigns for offices across every level of government, spanning state assembly seats, both chambers of the National Assembly, and the presidency. He made a public commitment regarding the conduct of these efforts, promising that the party’s campaign would remain peaceful and refrain from personal attacks, intimidation, or abusive rhetoric, focusing instead on restoring public confidence in governance.

As early political positioning begins well ahead of the 2027 ballots, Lamido’s remarks highlight how opposition figures intend to center their messaging on public service delivery and administrative experience.
