Supporters of the All Progressives Congress were attacked in Faskari, Katsina State, during a campaign event, leading to injuries and property damage as local officials call for calm.

Tensions flared in Katsina State on Saturday as supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were targeted by suspected hoodlums while en route to a campaign rally in Faskari Local Government Area. The incident, which took place in Yankara town, resulted in multiple injuries and the destruction of a campaign vehicle, according to reports from Channels Television.

Details of the Attack

Eyewitnesses reported that the violence occurred as supporters were traveling to attend a rally for Governor Dikko Umaru Radda. According to Alhaji Nura Sule Yandaki, the Caucus Chairman of the Musa Adamu Network (MAN), he and 11 team members were among those caught in the disruption. Yandaki stated that the situation escalated when individuals allegedly used a local Maulud procession as cover to ambush vehicles associated with the APC campaign.

While some witnesses claimed that two supporters sustained fatal injuries during the confrontation, these reports have not been independently verified. As of 9:10 p.m. on Saturday, local police authorities had not released an official statement regarding the casualties or the security situation.

Calls for Accountability

In the aftermath of the attack, the Musa Adamu Network issued a formal condemnation. Shamsuddeen Sani Lema, the group’s secretary, described the violence as unacceptable and urged security agencies to identify and prosecute the perpetrators. Lema emphasized that political engagement should remain free from intimidation and called for stronger legal measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Governor Radda Continues Campaign Agenda

Despite the unrest, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda proceeded with the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 campaign rally in Faskari. During his address, the governor focused on his administration’s policy achievements rather than the earlier violence. A central highlight of his speech was the official opening of the Faskari General Hospital, a project he noted was a key promise made during his previous campaign.

Governor Radda also detailed ongoing state investments in infrastructure, including road construction and school renovations. He asserted that these government interventions are essential for restoring regional peace and fostering economic growth. The governor reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance and agricultural development, promising that local residents would remain central to the state’s development efforts.

Looking Toward 2027

The Director-General of the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 Campaign Council, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, used the event to praise the administration’s record on security and human capital development. He encouraged party members to focus on grassroots mobilization in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. Additionally, Katsina State APC Chairman Bishir Saulawa reiterated the party’s intention to maintain a campaign strategy rooted in policy achievements rather than divisive rhetoric.

As of this writing, the investigation into the specific events in Yankara remains ongoing, and the broader impact of this violence on the local political climate is yet to be fully determined.
