Trump Endorses Netanyahu Ahead of Israel’s October 27 Election
U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a full endorsement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of a tightly contested parliamentary vote on October 27.
United States President Donald Trump has formally endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s parliamentary election scheduled for October 27, according to a report by Daily Post Nigeria. The endorsement offers significant international support to the veteran Israeli leader in a race widely viewed as a referendum on his leadership.
Praise from Truth Social
Trump announced his backing in a message published on his Truth Social platform, describing Netanyahu as “Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself.” Emphasizing their partnership, Trump wrote that the statement served as his “Complete and Total Endorsement” of Netanyahu in his campaign to secure another term as prime minister.
Netanyahu responded to the endorsement on social media platform X, thanking Trump and writing, “Together we will complete the mission!” In public appeals to voters, Netanyahu highlighted the statement and argued that their joint cooperation had achieved notable results while leaving critical goals to be finished.
A Contested Domestic Landscape
The upcoming vote marks Israel’s first parliamentary election since the Hamas-led assault on October 7, 2023. Netanyahu enters the election facing a tight contest, according to opinion polls cited by Daily Post Nigeria. Domestically, opposition figures have accused Netanyahu of personal responsibility for the October 7 assault, alleging that his administration disregarded prior warnings.
To bolster his campaign, Netanyahu’s Likud party released video material highlighting his close coordination with Trump. In the video, Netanyahu asserted that their combined efforts had “crushed Iran” and claimed that winning the election would allow him to work alongside Trump to “eliminate the Iranian threat over the next two years, or even sooner.” In previous remarks in August, Netanyahu described Trump as one of Israel’s greatest friends in the White House.
Complex Ties Over Regional Strategy
Despite their shared initiatives, the two leaders have previously navigated policy differences regarding military and diplomatic strategies in the Middle East. While Netanyahu has worked closely with Trump on multiple war fronts following the October 7 attack, their approaches toward Iran have at times diverged.
Daily Post Nigeria noted that Trump joined Israel in a military strike against Iran in late February, but later agreed to a ceasefire in April following broad public opposition in the United States and a sharp increase in international oil prices. While Netanyahu has maintained that reaching a negotiated diplomatic pact with Iranian authorities is not possible, Trump had pursued a diplomatic framework to conclude the extended hostilities.
As voters prepare to cast ballots on October 27, Trump’s explicit backing positions the U.S.-Israel alliance and security policy directly at the center of Netanyahu’s re-election pitch.
