A distressing incident has emerged from Kaduna State, where a 13-year-old girl,
Hassana Bulus, died shortly after regaining her freedom from kidnappers. The young
girl had been held in captivity for seven months following an abduction in the Kachia
Local Government Area.

## The Timeline of the Abduction

According to information shared by Reuben Buhari, the former Senior Special Assistant
on Media and Publicity to the late Kaduna State Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa,
the incident began on April 20, 2026. Hassana Bulus was abducted from her home in
Awon village alongside several other individuals. Following the initial kidnapping,
the victims were taken into the bush by the perpetrators.

## A Brief Return to Freedom

The ordeal lasted for approximately seven months. Reports indicate that Hassana
was finally released by her captors on November 2, 2026. Following her release,
she was transported to a health facility in Kachia to receive urgent medical attention
for the physical and psychological toll of her captivity. Tragically, she passed
away on November 3, only a few hours after being admitted to the hospital.

## Context of Security Challenges in Kaduna

The death of the teenager highlights the ongoing security challenges facing residents
in parts of Kaduna State. While specific details regarding the circumstances of
her release or the condition of the other individuals kidnapped alongside her remain
limited, the case has drawn attention to the severe impact of prolonged abduction
on victims. Mr. Buhari, in his public statement, characterized the experience as
one involving significant suffering, noting that the girl endured conditions that
no child should have to face.

### Moving Forward

As of the time of reporting, authorities have not provided further details regarding
the investigation into the kidnapping or the specific medical cause of death. The
loss of Hassana Bulus serves as a somber reminder of the human cost associated with
the persistent insecurity in the region. Community members and observers continue
to express concern over the safety of civilians in rural areas vulnerable to such
criminal activities.

The circumstances surrounding this case remain a developing situation, with many
questions still unanswered regarding the broader security environment in Kachia
and the status of other victims who may have been abducted during the same period.
