The Taraba State Environmental Sanitation Agency (TSESA) has issued a formal directive
to livestock owners and rearers throughout the state, specifically targeting the
Jalingo metropolis. The agency is calling for an immediate end to the practice of
allowing animals to roam freely in public spaces, citing significant concerns regarding
the preservation of public property.

## Protecting Urban Infrastructure and Greenery

According to a statement released by TSESA on Saturday, the primary motivation behind
this warning is the protection of government-maintained facilities and environmental
initiatives. The agency noted that free-ranging animals pose a direct threat to
urban beautification efforts, particularly newly planted trees intended to enhance
the state’s environmental health.

TSESA emphasized that the movement of livestock through landscaped areas and along
major roads undermines ongoing efforts to foster a cleaner and greener Taraba State.
The agency views these animals as a risk to the integrity of public infrastructure,
which requires consistent maintenance and protection to remain functional and aesthetically
pleasing.

## Potential Consequences for Defaulters

The agency has signaled that it intends to enforce existing regulations to curb
this behavior. While the specific nature of the penalties was not detailed in the
initial statement, TSESA warned that appropriate measures would be taken against
those who fail to comply with the directive.

Beyond the regulatory implications, the agency highlighted the risks to the livestock
owners themselves. By allowing animals to wander onto busy roads and public areas,
owners expose their livestock to potential harm and financial loss. TSESA stated
that securing animals is a necessary step to prevent such incidents.

## Call for Public Cooperation

TSESA has appealed to residents and livestock owners to cooperate with these new
measures. The agency maintains that the goal of this initiative is to ensure a safe,
clean, and environmentally friendly environment for all citizens. While the agency
has not provided a specific timeline for when enforcement actions will begin, the
statement serves as a clear notice that the current level of oversight regarding
animal movement in public spaces is expected to increase.

The agency’s directive highlights the ongoing challenges of balancing traditional
livestock rearing practices with the demands of urban development and environmental
management in Jalingo. As the state continues to invest in infrastructure and greenery,
the management of animal movement remains a key focus for local sanitation authorities.
