Take It Back Movement Challenges Police Narrative Following Attack on Omoyele Sowore
The Take It Back Movement has formally rejected the Ekiti State Police Command's characterization of an attack on AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, calling for the removal of the state's Commissioner of Police.
The Take It Back Movement (TIB) has publicly challenged the account provided by the Ekiti State Police Command regarding a violent incident involving Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), in Ado-Ekiti. In a statement released on Friday, October 30, 2026, the organization characterized the police’s official narrative as a form of gaslighting that minimizes the severity of the assault.
Disputed Accounts of the Incident
According to the TIB, led by National Coordinator Sanyaolu Juwon, the incident was not a mutual altercation as suggested by local law enforcement. The movement asserts that Sowore, along with the party’s National Chairman, Pastor Samuel Ajeigbe, and other members, were subjected to a targeted attack. The group points to visual evidence and witness accounts of physical injuries sustained by the victims to refute the police’s description of the event as a minor disagreement.
The TIB statement, titled “You cannot beat, bleed and then gaslight the victims,” argues that the police command is attempting to whitewash the violence through official communication. The group emphasized that the injuries documented at the scene contradict the official police report, which they claim insults the intelligence of the public.
Allegations Against Police Leadership
A central point of contention for the TIB is the alleged role of the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael. The movement claims that the Commissioner personally visited the site of the incident and observed the aftermath, including the injuries sustained by the victims. Despite this, the group notes that the subsequent police statement downplayed the severity of the violence.
Consequently, the TIB has issued the following demands:
- The immediate removal of CP Falade Adegoroye Michael from his position.
- The identification and prosecution of all individuals involved in the attack.
- An independent and thorough investigation into potential misconduct and complicity by security personnel.
Political Context and Calls for Accountability
Beyond its criticism of the police, the TIB has directed its grievances toward the Ekiti State government. The movement accused Governor Biodun Oyebanji of failing to provide a secure environment for political actors to exercise their constitutional rights. Furthermore, the group issued a warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that holding political power does not grant the ruling party ownership of public spaces.
The TIB concluded its statement by affirming its commitment to pursuing justice, stating that it will not be intimidated into silence. As of this reporting, the Ekiti State Police Command has not issued a further response to these specific allegations, and information regarding an independent inquiry remains unavailable.
