As the football world turns its attention to the upcoming 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony,
former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has weighed in on the debate, firmly backing
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane to take home the prestigious trophy. In comments
made to TNT Sports, the former England midfielder suggested that the decision should
be straightforward given the striker’s performance over the past year.

## A Case for Consistency

Gerrard’s endorsement centers on the sheer volume of output provided by Kane throughout
the 2025-2026 campaign. According to the Daily Post Nigeria, Gerrard described the
forward as an “absolute goal machine” and “Mr. Consistent,” noting that the player
has “ticked every single box” required to be considered the world’s best player.

During the previous season, Kane’s statistical contributions were significant. He
reportedly netted over 70 goals across all competitions for both his club, Bayern
Munich, and the England national team. This prolific form helped him secure the
Bundesliga title and the European Golden Boot, achievements that Gerrard believes
make his case undeniable.

## The Competition

While Gerrard acknowledges the presence of other high-profile contenders, he maintains
that the argument for Kane is superior. The discussion surrounding the 2026 award
has frequently included names such as Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid’s
Kylian Mbappe, both of whom have been central figures in their respective teams’
successes. However, Gerrard stated, “I just don’t think there is an argument against
it,” regarding Kane’s potential victory.

### The Stakes of the Ceremony

For Kane, the upcoming ceremony represents a pivotal moment in his career. Gerrard
characterized the situation as “now or never” for the striker, emphasizing the significance
of winning the award at this stage of his professional journey. While the final
decision rests with the voting panel, Gerrard’s public support highlights the high
regard in which the striker is held by his peers and former legends of the game.

## Conclusion

The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, scheduled for this coming Monday, remains one of
the most anticipated events in the football calendar. While Steven Gerrard has made
his preference clear, the official outcome will be determined by the established
voting process. Whether Kane’s record-breaking goal tally will be enough to overcome
the challenges posed by other elite talents remains to be seen when the winner is
officially announced.
