Security forces in Zamfara State successfully repelled an attempted attack on Bukuyum
town, according to a statement released by the Zamfara State Police Command on Saturday,
October 31, 2026. The confrontation, which involved a collaboration between police
operatives and local civil security outfits, prevented armed bandits from entering
the community.

## Details of the Operation

The engagement followed an attempted incursion that began on October 28, 2026. According
to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, security personnel engaged
the attackers in a fierce gun battle. The operation was part of an ongoing clearance
effort intended to secure the area and protect residents from further violence.

Following the clash, authorities reported the discovery of more than 30 bodies in
the farmlands surrounding Bukuyum. The Command stated that these individuals are
suspected to be bandits neutralized during the exchange of fire.

## Casualty Verification and Operational Context

While the discovery of the bodies suggests that the attackers suffered significant
losses, the police noted that the final casualty count remains unverified. The Command
explained that it is a common tactic for bandit groups to attempt to evacuate their
fallen members from battle sites, which complicates the process of confirming exact
figures.

The police emphasized that the successful defense of Bukuyum prevented potential
loss of life, property destruction, and the displacement of local residents. Preliminary
security assessments suggest that the sustained pressure from these clearance operations
is forcing some armed groups to flee the region.

## Future Security Commitments

The Zamfara State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing these
operations in coordination with other security agencies and local stakeholders.
The stated objective is to eliminate criminal elements from the state and restore
public confidence in the safety of the region.

The Command concluded its statement by assuring residents that it remains determined
to ensure the security of communities across the state. As of the time of the report,
no information was provided regarding casualties among the security forces or the
local civil security outfits involved in the defense.
