Security forces in Nasarawa State have successfully apprehended a suspected kidnapper
during a sting operation in the Eggon Local Government Area. According to a report
by the _Daily Post Nigeria_, the suspect, identified as Mukaila Iliyasu, was taken
into custody while attempting to collect a ransom payment of ₦200,000.

## The Intelligence-Led Operation

The operation was initiated after security agencies received intelligence that Iliyasu
had allegedly threatened a local woman with abduction unless she paid the specified
sum. Upon receiving this information, the Department of State Services (DSS) coordinated
with troops from Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke.

To apprehend the suspect, security personnel devised a plan to intercept him during
the hand-over. A soldier was deployed undercover, posing as the individual tasked
with delivering the ransom money to the suspect. The operation, which took place
at Akwaba, resulted in the suspect’s arrest at the exact moment he arrived to collect
the funds. The ₦200,000 was recovered by security personnel at the scene.

## Official Confirmation and Next Steps

Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, the Acting Media Information Officer for Operation
Whirl Stroke, confirmed the arrest in an official statement. He characterized the
event as an intelligence-driven success that prevented a kidnapping from occurring.
Following his arrest, Iliyasu was transferred to the custody of the DSS for further
investigation and potential prosecution.

## Leadership Response

Major General Moses Kolo Gara, the Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke and
General Officer Commanding 5 Division of the Nigerian Army, praised the collaborative
effort between the military and the DSS. He highlighted the importance of professionalism
and effective coordination in such operations.

General Gara further encouraged security agencies to continue prioritizing intelligence
sharing and joint operations as a primary strategy for combating kidnapping and
other criminal activities within the region.

## Conclusion

The arrest of Mukaila Iliyasu serves as a notable example of inter-agency cooperation
in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping. While the suspect is now in custody,
the case remains under investigation by the DSS. The success of this operation underscores
the role that intelligence-led strategies play in disrupting criminal threats before
they escalate into violent abductions.
