Commercial operations at the main international airport in Riyadh remain suspended
following a deadly missile barrage launched by Houthi forces over the weekend, according
to a report by CBS News. The strikes directly targeted the facility’s main terminal,
inflicting severe infrastructure damage and leaving at least 13 people dead.

## Deadly Strike Hits Aviation Hub

The assault marks a sharp escalation in cross-border violence targeting Saudi civilian
infrastructure. According to reporting from CBS News, the strikes resulted in substantial
structural destruction to Riyadh’s primary air transit hub, forcing authorities
to shut down operations at the terminal as emergency personnel assessed the damage
and attended to casualties. Details regarding the specific types of munitions used
and the precise timeline for reopening the facility have not been formally detailed.

## Saudi Arabia Vows Response, Urges U.S. Involvement

In the wake of the casualties and widespread disruption, the Saudi government announced
that it intends to retaliate against the forces responsible. Beyond preparing its
own response, Riyadh is actively urging the United States to participate in joint
military actions. CBS News reported that Donald Trump has been weighing potential
strikes in response to the offensive, underscoring growing pressure on Washington
to re-engage directly in the confrontation between Saudi forces and the Houthi movement.

The extent to which the United States might commit military assets remains uncertain,
as official operational plans or timelines for potential retaliatory missions have
not been disclosed by U.S. defense officials.

## Scrutiny on Houthi Regional Influence

The strike has once again directed international attention toward the expanding
operational capabilities of the Houthi movement in the Arabian Peninsula. In coverage
of the event, CBS News consulted Gregory Gause, an associate fellow at the Middle
East Institute, to analyze the depth of the group’s regional power and their capability
to execute high-impact strikes against heavily protected administrative and transport
centers deep inside Saudi territory.

As regional stakeholders await potential military maneuvers, the closure of the
capital’s primary airport highlights the ongoing vulnerability of critical transport
links to long-range weapon systems across the Middle East.
