Pope Leo XIV announced plans to resume his official schedule after undergoing cancer
surgery, greeting a crowd of thousands in Rome shortly after being discharged from
medical care.

## Public Appearance in St. Peter’s Square

According to a report from CBS News, the pontiff addressed thousands of the faithful
gathered in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday. The appearance took place just one day
after he was released from the hospital following an operation to treat cancer.

During the gathering, Pope Leo XIV took the opportunity to express his gratitude
to those in attendance. The public appearance marked his first direct engagement
with crowds since undergoing the surgical intervention.

## Limited Details on Procedure and Schedule

While the announcement confirmed that the pontiff intends to resume his standard
schedule of activities, specific medical details regarding his condition remain
limited. CBS News reported that the operation was performed for cancer, but additional
context—such as the specific diagnosis, the facility where the surgery occurred,
or the exact duration of the hospital stay—was not immediately detailed.

Vatican administrative calendars typically feature a wide range of public liturgies,
diplomatic meetings, and general audiences. Whether any temporary modifications
or reduced hours will be implemented to accommodate his post-surgical recuperation
has not been specified in the initial reports.

## Next Steps for the Papacy

A return to public visibility just twenty-four hours after hospital discharge highlights
the pontiff’s intention to maintain continuity in church leadership. Observers and
the faithful will be watching closely in the coming days for formal updates from
church officials regarding upcoming public appearances and international commitments.

As of Sunday, further medical updates and specific dates for major forthcoming events
had not been released by official church spokespersons.
