Plateau United Dominate Kano Pillars as Rangers Maintain League Lead

A high-scoring Sunday in the EUROMATCH-NPFL saw Plateau United secure a commanding victory, while league leaders Rangers International narrowly avoided defeat in a dramatic draw.

Plateau United Cruise to Victory

Plateau United delivered a dominant performance at the New Jos Stadium this Sunday, securing a 4-0 victory over Kano Pillars. Under the guidance of Gbenga Ogunbote, the team wasted no time in establishing control, with Paul Samson opening the scoring just three minutes into the match. The early breakthrough was the result of coordinated play involving Ekundayo Ojo and Ibrahim Yahaya.

As the first half drew to a close, Ojo capitalized on a deflected corner kick from Victor Dawa to double the lead. The hosts maintained their momentum throughout the second half, eventually putting the game beyond reach in the closing stages. Samuel Ayanrinde found the net in the 82nd minute, followed by a stoppage-time goal from Nenrot Silas in the 94th minute to complete the rout.

Rangers Hold Steady at the Top

Defending champions Rangers International faced a stern test away at Barau FC, ultimately salvaging a 2-2 draw in a high-intensity encounter. Ifeanyi Okechukwu gave the visitors the lead in the 38th minute, but the momentum shifted in the second half as Barau FC responded with two penalties. Joseph Atule converted in the 56th minute, followed by Aliyu Sugau in the 68th minute to flip the scoreline.

Just as it appeared the champions might suffer a setback, Chidiebere Nwobodo struck in stoppage time to secure a point for Rangers. The result ensures that Rangers International remains at the summit of the league standings.

Mixed Results Across the League

Elsewhere in the EUROMATCH-NPFL, Rivers United maintained pressure on the league leaders despite being held to a 0-0 draw by Abia Warriors. In other fixtures, Kun Khalifat FC and Nasarawa United both secured 2-0 victories. Kun Khalifat overcame Shooting Stars thanks to goals from Chukwuma Agor and Uchechukwu Onuoha, while Sunday Dapman and Jofrank Istifanus secured the win for Nasarawa United against Doma United.

Warri Wolves recorded a 3-1 victory over Inter Lagos, largely driven by a brace from Emmanuel Aribogba. Aribogba opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, though Inter Lagos briefly leveled through John Danga before halftime. Aribogba struck again shortly after the restart, and Sabastine Uche added a third goal late in the game to seal the win.

In Lagos, Sporting Lagos staged a comeback victory against Bendel Insurance. The match began with a record-breaking start, as Kayode Oke scored for the visitors just 18 seconds into the game—marking the fastest goal of the season. However, Sporting Lagos responded quickly, with Victor Samuel equalizing in the 14th minute and Gafar Olaniyan finding the winner in the 22nd minute to conclude an eventful day of football.
