Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC),
has publicly addressed an incident involving an attack on his convoy in Calabar,
Cross River State. The event took place on Wednesday as the candidate was navigating
the city for scheduled political engagements.

## Details of the Incident

According to reports from _Channels Television_, the security incident occurred
along the Murtala Muhammed Highway. The location is situated near prominent city
landmarks, specifically the U.J. Esuene Stadium and the Metropolitan Hotel. At the
time of the reported attack, the NDC was actively hosting a town hall meeting in
the vicinity as part of a broader nationwide tour aimed at building support for
the upcoming 2027 general elections.

## Political Response

Speaking shortly after the incident, Obi addressed the situation during the town
hall meeting. He characterized the NDC movement as “unstoppable,” signaling that
the security breach would not deter his party’s ongoing outreach efforts. While
the candidate provided a defiant assessment of the movement’s momentum, specific
details regarding the nature of the attack, the extent of any damage, or potential
injuries to staff and security personnel were not provided in the initial reports.

### Context of the 2027 Campaign

The incident in Calabar occurs within the context of an intensifying political climate
as candidates begin their nationwide engagements ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
Town hall meetings have become a staple of the NDC’s strategy, intended to facilitate
direct interaction between the candidate and the electorate. The party has framed
these engagements as essential to their national platform, despite the logistical
and security challenges that often accompany large-scale political movements in
urban centers.

## Moving Forward

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement regarding whether
security protocols for the NDC campaign will be adjusted following the event in
Cross River State. The incident highlights the ongoing security concerns faced by
high-profile political figures during the pre-election phase. Obi’s remarks suggest
that the party intends to continue its planned schedule of town hall meetings across
the country, maintaining the pace of their 2027 campaign despite the disruption
in Calabar.

_Disclaimer: Information regarding the specific perpetrators or the tactical details
of the attack remains unavailable at this time._
