Paris Suburbs Shooting: Suspect Faces Terrorism Probe After Admitting Racially Motivated Attack
A 39-year-old man is facing terrorism charges following a drive-by shooting in the Paris suburbs that left one person dead and five others injured. Prosecutors report the suspect admitted to targeting victims based on their perceived ethnic and religious backgrounds.

A 39-year-old man, identified as Kevin T., is currently at the center of a national terrorism investigation following a violent shooting spree in the Paris suburbs of Trappes and La Verriere. According to reports from Channels Television, the incident, which occurred last week, resulted in one fatality and left five individuals wounded, including a child.
Details of the Investigation
National terrorism prosecutor Olivier Christen confirmed during a press conference on Thursday that the suspect has admitted to targeting individuals he perceived as being Muslim, African, or North African. While the suspect initially contested the racist nature of his actions, he has since shifted his testimony, claiming he selected the specific locations because he viewed them as “a hotbed for Islamists.”
The suspect was apprehended on the Friday following the attack. Authorities discovered a machine gun and tear-gas grenades inside his vehicle at the time of his arrest. Further searches of his residence yielded a collection of weapons and components, including a silencer, brass knuckles, and a steel bayonet.
Evidence and Motive
Prosecutors highlighted a “very high level of preparation” regarding the planning of the attack. Among the items recovered from the suspect’s home were several books, including the Quran, the Bible, and Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf. Investigators also discovered stickers featuring slogans such as “Long live France, RN, proud to be French,” referencing the far-right National Rally party.
Prosecutor Christen clarified that these stickers were not produced by the National Rally. The suspect reportedly told investigators that he designed the stickers himself and commissioned their manufacture via Amazon over a year ago. Despite these findings, the suspect maintains that he is neither a member of nor a sympathizer with any political party and denies any “terrorist intent,” characterizing his actions as “legitimate.”
Current Status of Victims
The human toll of the attack remains significant. According to the prosecutor, four of the five wounded victims sustained serious injuries. As of Thursday, three individuals remained hospitalized, with one victim still in life-threatening condition.
Legal Proceedings
The office of the national anti-terrorism prosecutor (PNAT) has opened a formal judicial investigation. This move allows a judge to oversee the case, which includes charges of “murder and attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise.” The prosecutor has requested that the suspect be held in pretrial detention as the investigation continues.
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have not yet provided further details regarding the suspect’s background or any potential accomplices. The case has drawn significant attention given the political climate in France, as the country prepares for presidential elections next spring.
