Osun APC Officials Challenge Presidential Campaign Council Composition
Key members of the Osun State APC Executive Committee have formally rejected the newly released Presidential Campaign Council list, citing concerns over procedural transparency and the exclusion of state leadership.
A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Osun State has publicly voiced its opposition to the composition of the party’s recently unveiled Presidential Campaign Council (PCC). In a formal rejoinder, several high-ranking state officials argued that the current structure fails to adhere to established party guidelines and lacks the necessary inclusivity required for such a significant political body.
Concerns Over Procedural Integrity
The statement, signed by State Publicity Secretary Wole Adunola, Assistant Organising Secretary Rasheed Adeniji, and Ex-Officio member Abiola Ololade, explicitly rejects the list in its current form. The officials highlighted the omission of several members of the State Working Committee, who they contend should be statutory members of the campaign structure.
According to the signatories, the exclusion of these recognized party officials raises significant questions regarding the level of consultation and adherence to due process within the party. They emphasized that the state executive committee remains a vital component of the party’s organizational framework and should not be sidelined during the formation of state-wide campaign bodies.
Confusion Over Campaign Leadership
A primary point of contention involves the perceived lack of alignment between the new list and previous directives. The officials noted that a prior presidential directive had reportedly named Governor Ademola Adeleke as the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in Osun State, a role that led to the inauguration of a broad-based campaign team.
The signatories expressed confusion over why a separate structure has emerged without clarification. They suggested that the new list would be more logical if it were intended for a Parliamentary Campaign Council rather than the Presidential one, warning that the current overlap could lead to duplication of responsibilities and internal friction.
Call for Stakeholder Consultation
To resolve these issues, the officials have requested immediate consultations with key stakeholders, including the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, and the State Director-General. They maintain that effective mobilization requires mutual respect and the active involvement of all legitimate party stakeholders.
Despite their grievances, the officials reaffirmed their commitment to the presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They stressed that their demand for a review is intended to ensure the campaign is properly coordinated and that no critical stakeholders are left behind.
Context of the Dispute
This development follows earlier reports from the Daily Post regarding the state party’s efforts to organize its 2027 campaign machinery. State Chairman Tajudeen Lawal had previously confirmed the appointment of Bola Oyebamiji as the Director-General of the party’s 2027 Presidential and Parliamentary Campaign Committee, alongside a 58-member Elders’ Council. These appointments were intended to follow the national inauguration of the PCC by President Tinubu in October 2026.
As of now, the party has not provided a formal response to the specific demands for a review of the campaign council list. The situation highlights the ongoing internal negotiations required to align state-level party structures with national campaign objectives as the 2027 election cycle approaches.
