The Nigeria U-23 national team, known as the Olympic Eagles, is set to receive a
significant boost to its roster this weekend. According to a report by _Daily Post
Nigeria_, several foreign-based professionals are scheduled to join the team’s training
camp as preparations intensify for the upcoming 2027 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations (
AFCON) second-round qualifiers against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

## Refining the Squad After Friendly Stumble

The decision to integrate these players follows a disappointing outing for the home-
based contingent. The Olympic Eagles, who have been in camp for two weeks, were
held to a goalless draw in a friendly match against the Nigeria National League (
NNL) side, Remo Stars, this past Sunday. The performance highlighted a need for
increased depth and experience as the coaching staff looks to finalize the squad
for international competition.

## Key Additions to the Roster

The team is expected to welcome a group of players currently competing in European
leagues. Among those identified by _Daily Post Nigeria_ are:

 * **Abdullahi Bewene**, currently playing for Banik Ostrava in the Czech Republic.
 * **Peter Edokpolor**, representing Benfica in Portugal.
 * **Isaac James**, based at Alverca in Portugal.
 * **Abdullahi Umar**, who plays for Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic.

These arrivals are intended to provide the tactical adjustments necessary to overcome
the challenges posed by their upcoming opponents.

## The Road to the 2027 AFCON

The upcoming two-legged tie against the Democratic Republic of Congo represents
a pivotal stage in the qualification process. The first leg is scheduled to take
place on Friday, November 13, at the TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi. The return
leg is slated to be held in Ikenne four days later.

The stakes for this encounter are high, as the winner of the aggregate score will
secure a spot in the third-round playoffs. Those playoffs are currently scheduled
to occur in March 2027, serving as the final hurdle before the tournament proper.

## Looking Ahead

While the team has been in camp for a fortnight, the arrival of these foreign-based
professionals marks a transition from general preparation to specific match-day
readiness. With the first leg in Lubumbashi approaching, the coaching staff will
have a limited window to integrate the new arrivals and address the offensive struggles
observed during the recent friendly. Whether this influx of talent will provide
the necessary spark for the Olympic Eagles remains to be seen as they prepare for
the challenging away fixture in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

  TL;DR (AI Generated)

The Nigeria U-23 national team, the Olympic Eagles, will soon be joined by several
foreign-based professionals as they prepare for the 2027 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations
qualifiers against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This roster boost comes after the home-based contingent struggled offensively and
played to a goalless draw in a recent friendly match against Remo Stars.

The team will face the DRC in a crucial two-legged tie, with the first leg scheduled
for November 13 in Lubumbashi and the return leg in Ikenne four days later.
