Law enforcement authorities in Ogun State have detained a 56-year-old resident following
the death of his wife in a residential blaze that investigators suspect may have
been intentionally set. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the custody of the
suspect in a public statement released on Sunday, according to reporting by the
Daily Post.

## Details of the Fire Incident

According to official statements relayed by the command’s Police Public Relations
Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident unfolded in the Igbo-Edu community,
located within the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area. The Abigi Divisional Police
Headquarters received an emergency report alerting officers that a dwelling had
caught fire and that an occupant was trapped inside.

Emergency responders and law enforcement subsequently discovered the remains of
40-year-old Igbagbo Erobe at the scene. Authorities placed her husband, identified
as Madarikan Emehinola, under arrest in connection with the suspected arson as investigators
work to determine how the blaze originated.

## Ongoing Inquiries and Autopsy Procedures

Police reported that the victim’s body has been conveyed to a local mortuary, where
medical personnel are scheduled to perform an autopsy to determine the definitive
cause of death. Meanwhile, the preliminary probe is expanding beyond the divisional
level.

Administrative procedures are underway to transfer the case file and the suspect
to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) situated in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
Specialized homicide and arson detectives at the state headquarters are tasked with
carrying out a comprehensive review of the evidence.

> “Arrangements are underway to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation
> Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation,” police officials
> confirmed.

## Official Stance and Unanswered Questions

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, stated that command personnel
will conduct the investigation strictly within the framework of the law and with
professional scrutiny. Ojajuni reiterated the agency’s mandate to safeguard residents
and ensure that serious criminal allegations receive thorough attention.

At this stage of the inquiry, authorities have not released details regarding the
potential motive, the exact origin point of the fire, or what materials may have
accelerated the flames. It also remains unclear whether others were present in the
structure when the incident occurred. Law enforcement officials have encouraged
members of the public to provide any verified information that could clarify the
circumstances leading to the incident.
