The Ogun State government has formally reconstituted the Awujale Interregnum Council,
appointing new leadership to oversee the body responsible for managing affairs during
the current transition period. According to a report by _Premium Times Nigeria_,
the government named Adesanya as the new Chairman and Okunowo as the Secretary of
the council.

## Context of the Reconstitution

The decision to restructure the council comes shortly after the reported withdrawal
of several members from the original body. The council was first established by
the state government in August 2025 to provide administrative oversight. The recent
changes within the council’s composition have been attributed to internal disagreements
regarding the emergence of a group known as the Adele Oba Awujale.

## Understanding the Interregnum Council

An interregnum council is typically tasked with maintaining institutional stability
and managing traditional administrative functions during a period when a throne
is vacant or in transition. In the context of the Awujale, the council serves as
a bridge to ensure that governance and traditional protocols continue to function
according to state regulations.

### Key Developments

 * **Leadership Change:** Adesanya has been appointed to lead the council as Chairman.
 * **Administrative Role:** Okunowo has been designated as the Secretary.
 * **Reason for Shift:** The government’s move follows the departure of previous
members who reportedly disagreed over the influence and activities of the Adele
   Oba Awujale group.

The _Premium Times Nigeria_ report did not provide specific details regarding the
official mandate of the Adele Oba Awujale group, nor did it disclose the identities
of the members who withdrew from the council. The state government has not yet released
further statements regarding the specific implications of these personnel changes
on the broader transition process.

## Conclusion

The reconstitution of the Awujale Interregnum Council marks a significant shift
in the management of the ongoing transition. By appointing new leadership, the Ogun
State government aims to stabilize the council following recent internal friction.
As the situation develops, the focus remains on whether this new leadership will
be able to navigate the complexities surrounding the Adele Oba Awujale group and
fulfill the council’s primary administrative objectives.
