A nurse identified as Taiwo Godwin Ayodeji has d!ed after suffering an asthma attack at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, with a colleague alleging that oxygen was not administered to him despite his deteriorating condition.

An eyewitness, who spoke to SaharaReporters, said Ayodeji, a known asthma patient at the hospital, was brought to the facility after experiencing difficulty breathing while playing football.

Sahara Reporters quoted the source as saying a friend who accompanied him said Ayodeji was still able to walk into the hospital’s emergency unit when he arrived for treatment.

The eyewitness, however, alleged that although the nurse was placed on oxygen equipment, the oxygen was not turned on.

“I noticed he was on oxygen, but the oxygen was not put on,” the source told SaharaReporters.

The source was further quoted as saying Ayodeji’s condition had deteriorated by the time the medical team attended to him, alleging that he had developed a weak pulse and dilated pupils. The eyewitness also alleged that a doctor encountered difficulty accessing Ayodeji’s vein and that efforts to secure his airway were unsuccessful before a doctor pronounced him de@d.

The eyewitness alleged that Ayodeji’s death marked the second time a nurse from the same school had died at the same facility this year, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding the reported deaths.

The source called for an investigation and justice for the deceased.

The school authorities have yet to react to this development.
