The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially recognized the historic
achievement of Nigeria’s national women’s U-17 football team, the Flamingos, following
their progression to the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. According
to reports from the _Daily Post_, the team secured their place in the championship
match after a commanding 3-1 victory over Brazil on Wednesday night.

## A Dominant Performance Against Brazil

The match saw the Flamingos maintain a high level of intensity, effectively dismantling
the Brazilian defense. Queen Joseph opened the scoring for Nigeria with a close-
range effort in the 56th minute, breaking the deadlock and shifting the momentum
in favor of the African side.

The lead was extended by winger Awawu Bashiru, who delivered a standout performance
by netting two goals in the 71st and 80th minutes. While Brazil’s Greise Kelly managed
to score a late header, the effort proved insufficient to mount a comeback against
the Nigerian side, which successfully defended its lead until the final whistle.

## CAF Celebrates the Milestone

The significance of the victory was highlighted by CAF, which took to its official
social media channels to commemorate the team’s advancement. In a celebratory post,
the governing body declared, “AFRICA, MAKE SOME NOISE! THE FLAMINGOS ARE WORLD CUP
FINALISTS!”

This victory marks a major milestone for the Nigerian youth program, as it represents
the Flamingos’ maiden appearance in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
For Brazil, the loss marks a disappointing end to a tournament where they had previously
secured a fourth-place finish in the preceding edition.

## Looking Ahead to the Final

With the semi-final victory confirmed, the Flamingos are now preparing for the tournament’s
final match. They are scheduled to face Japan this coming Saturday night. The match
will be hosted at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, Pitch 3, in Rabat.

As the team prepares for this final encounter, the focus remains on their tactical
execution and the momentum gained from their recent win. While the _Daily Post_
has confirmed the venue and the opponent, details regarding the specific team lineups
or injury reports for the final match have not been disclosed at this time.

## Conclusion

The Flamingos’ journey to the 2026 U-17 Women’s World Cup final stands as a testament
to the growing competitiveness of African women’s football on the global stage.
By overcoming a formidable opponent in Brazil, Nigeria has cemented its status as
a top contender in this year’s competition. All eyes will now turn to Rabat this
Saturday to see if the Flamingos can secure their first-ever world title against
Japan.
