Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have successfully advanced
to the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Following a strong
performance in the group stage, the team is now awaiting the conclusion of Group
F matches to identify their opponent for the Round of 16.

## A Strong Finish in Group B

The Flamingos secured their place in the next round after a notable 3-1 victory
against the defending champions, North Korea, in Rabat this past Friday. Under the
leadership of Akeem Busari, the Nigerian side concluded their group stage campaign
with a total of six points from three matches, finishing in second place within
Group B.

## The Path to the Round of 16

According to reports from _Daily Post Nigeria_, the structure of the tournament
dictates that the second-place finisher from Group B must face the runner-up from
Group F. While Spain has already secured a spot in the knockout round from Group
F, the identity of the second-place team remains uncertain as multiple nations remain
in contention.

### Group F Dynamics

The final standings in Group F are currently fluid, with three teams still vying
for the position that will lead them to a match against Nigeria:

 * **Mexico:** Currently holding second place in the group following a 3-1 win over
   Chile.
 * **Chile:** Possessing one point, they remain mathematically eligible for advancement
depending on their final match results.
 * **Australia:** Also holding one point, Australia retains a chance to progress
   to the knockout stage.

The final group fixtures will see Chile face Spain, while Mexico is scheduled to
compete against Australia. These matches will determine the final table standings
and confirm which of these three nations will advance to meet Nigeria.

## Looking Ahead to the Knockout Stage

The Flamingos’ next match is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, in Sale. As of
now, specific tactical preparations for the upcoming opponent have not been disclosed,
as the team awaits the final results from the Group F matches. The transition from
the group stage to the single-elimination format marks a critical juncture for the
squad as they aim to progress further in the tournament.

## Conclusion

Nigeria’s advancement to the Round of 16 highlights a competitive run in the group
stage, punctuated by their victory over the defending titleholders. With the knockout
match set for October 29, the Flamingos will soon turn their focus toward their
next challenge, pending the final outcomes of the Group F encounters.
