Troops operating in Kebbi State have successfully secured the release of 11 kidnapped victims following two distinct engagements with armed groups in the Danko-Wasagu area.

Military forces under Operation Fansan Yamma have reported the successful rescue of 11 kidnapped individuals in Kebbi State. According to an official statement released by the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto, the operations took place on October 30 and 31, 2026, within the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.

Details of the First Rescue Operation

The initial rescue occurred after military personnel received a distress call regarding armed individuals blocking a road leading to Ribah town. Upon arrival, troops found evidence of an attempted community invasion, including abandoned motorcycles. Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the spokesperson for the 8 Division, stated that the military pursued the suspects, leading to a direct engagement. The attackers were reportedly forced to retreat, leaving behind seven captives. The rescued individuals were identified as Sa’adu Bala, Dantani Yahyi, Nura Musa, Nasiru Muhammad, Abdulakeem Abubakar, Abdulahi Maikudi, and Zaki Gom. The military confirmed that these seven individuals have since been reunited with their families.

Second Engagement in Wasagu

A second operation occurred in the vicinity of Wasagu village. According to Lt. Col. Osoba, troops conducting routine patrols were confronted by suspected terrorists. The military repelled the attack, which resulted in the rescue of four additional victims who had been abducted from their local farms. These individuals were identified as Lawali Ali, Samaila Shuaibu, Kasimu Shuaibu, and Aliyu Bala. Following their rescue, the four victims were placed in the care of the local community head.

Context of Security Operations in Kebbi

The Danko-Wasagu area has been a focal point for security concerns in recent years, with various military operations deployed to address the activities of armed groups. The military leadership has stated that these recent interventions are part of a broader commitment to curb criminal activity in the region. While the military has pledged to continue these efforts to protect residents and their property, specific details regarding the identity of the armed groups or the current status of the suspects involved in these encounters were not disclosed in the official briefing.

Conclusion

The rescue of the 11 victims marks a significant development in the ongoing security efforts within Kebbi State. As the military continues its patrols and operations under the mandate of Operation Fansan Yamma, the focus remains on neutralizing threats and ensuring the safety of local communities. Further information regarding the long-term impact of these operations on regional security has not been provided by the military at this time.
