Military Operations in Zamfara and Sokoto Disrupt Terrorist Activities
Joint Task Force North West troops successfully repelled a coordinated ambush in Zamfara and recovered hundreds of rustled livestock in Sokoto, according to a recent military report.
Military forces operating under the Joint Task Force North West, known as Operation Fansan Yamma, have reported successful interventions against terrorist groups in Zamfara and Sokoto states. According to an official statement released on Wednesday by Captain Tamuno Sinivie, the Media Information Officer for the task force, these operations resulted in the neutralization of ambush attempts and the recovery of stolen property.
Ambush Repelled in Zamfara State
On October 28, 2026, troops from Sector 2 were conducting a routine fighting patrol along the Anka–Guruzu Road in Zamfara State. The military reports that the patrol encountered a coordinated ambush by terrorists positioned on both sides of the roadway. Responding with what the military described as superior firepower, the troops forced the attackers to retreat in disarray.
The engagement resulted in one soldier sustaining a gunshot wound. The military confirmed that the soldier was evacuated for medical treatment and is currently in stable condition. Following the skirmish, the troops secured the area, allowing for the restoration of traffic and freedom of movement for commuters in the region.
Livestock Recovery and Rescue in Sokoto
In a separate operation conducted in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, military personnel intervened to stop a livestock rustling attempt at Takasaba Village. Acting on intelligence reports, the troops engaged the suspected terrorists, who subsequently abandoned their efforts and fled the scene.
The operation led to the recovery of 520 head of livestock and the rescue of two abducted herders, aged 50 and 14. These individuals were handed over to the local government authorities in Sabon Birni. The military has not provided further details regarding the identity of the suspects or the specific terrorist group involved in these incidents.
Command Leadership and Public Cooperation
Major General W. B. Idris, the Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, issued a commendation to the troops involved, citing their courage and operational effectiveness. He encouraged the forces to maintain their current momentum in ongoing efforts to address security challenges in the North-West region.
General Idris also emphasized the importance of public collaboration, urging residents to continue sharing timely and credible information with security agencies. The military reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and security across the affected states, though specific long-term strategies for the region remain subject to operational security protocols.
As of the time of the report, no further information regarding the status of the attackers or additional casualties beyond the wounded soldier has been made available by the military authorities.
