Military forces operating under the Joint Task Force North West, known as Operation
FANSAN YAMMA, have reported a successful intervention against criminal elements
in Sokoto State. According to an official statement issued by Captain Tamuno Sinivie,
the Media Information Officer for the task force, troops thwarted an attempt to
rustle livestock and abduct local herders on October 28, 2026.

## Details of the Rescue Operation

The incident occurred in Takasaba Village, located within the Sabon Birni Local
Government Area of Sokoto State. Acting on intelligence regarding local terrorist
activities, military units mobilized to the area. Upon arrival, the troops engaged
the suspects with what the military described as superior firepower. Faced with
this response, the assailants fled the scene, leaving behind 520 head of livestock
and two abducted individuals.

The rescued victims have been identified as 50-year-old Malam Sulaiman and 14-year-
old Nasiru Sulaiman. Following their rescue, the military handed both individuals
over to the Sabon Birni Local Government authorities. Information regarding the
current health status of the rescued victims was not provided in the military statement.

## Broader Security Context

The operation in Sokoto coincided with a separate engagement involving the same
task force on the same day. Troops from Sector 2, while conducting a patrol along
the Anka–Guruzu Road in neighboring Zamfara State, were ambushed by a group of terrorists.
The military reported that the troops successfully fought through the ambush, forcing
the attackers to withdraw. During this specific encounter, one soldier sustained
a gunshot injury but was reported to be in stable condition following medical evacuation.

## Command Response

Major General WB Idris, the Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, issued
a commendation for the troops involved in both operations, citing their gallantry
and fighting spirit. In his statement, General Idris urged the personnel to maintain
their operational momentum against terrorist elements in the region.

Furthermore, the military command reiterated its commitment to restoring security
across the Joint Operations Area. Officials have encouraged members of the public
to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, which
the military credits as a vital component in their ability to respond to threats
effectively.

While these operations highlight ongoing efforts to curb banditry and kidnapping
in the North West, the military has not provided further details regarding the identity
of the suspects or the specific groups responsible for the attempted rustling and
the ambush.
