Security forces operating in Nasarawa State have apprehended two individuals suspected
of impersonating military personnel. The arrest, which took place in the Asakiyo
community of Lafia Local Government Area, was conducted by troops attached to Sector
2 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).

## Details of the Operation

According to information shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Sunday, the
apprehension occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The suspects were
reportedly identified and detained during a routine security operation conducted
by the troops in the area. While the specific nature of the suspects’ activities
prior to the arrest was not detailed, the report indicates they were actively posing
as soldiers at the time they were intercepted.

## Recovered Items and Next Steps

During the course of the operation, military personnel reportedly recovered several
items from the suspects, including two cutlasses. The authorities have not yet provided
a comprehensive list of the other items seized or disclosed the specific motives
behind the alleged impersonation.

Following their arrest, both suspects and the recovered materials were taken into
the custody of the OPWS troops. The military has confirmed that the individuals
are currently being held for further investigation. It is expected that the suspects
will be processed in accordance with standard military and legal procedures to determine
the extent of their activities and whether they have been involved in other criminal
acts in the region.

## Context of Security Operations in Nasarawa

Operation Whirl Stroke is a specialized military task force deployed across parts
of North-Central Nigeria to address security challenges, including banditry and
communal violence. The presence of such task forces is intended to maintain order
and protect local populations. The impersonation of security personnel remains a
recurring concern for law enforcement agencies, as such acts can be used to facilitate
illegal checkpoints, extortion, or other criminal enterprises.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from the Nigerian
Army regarding the identities of the suspects or the specific charges they may face.
Information regarding whether the suspects have prior criminal records or if they
have been linked to specific incidents in the Lafia area remains unavailable.

### Conclusion

The arrest in Asakiyo highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to mitigate
threats posed by individuals masquerading as military personnel. As the investigation
by Operation Whirl Stroke continues, the public awaits further updates regarding
the legal status of the suspects and the potential implications for security in
Nasarawa State.
