The award acknowledges a standout period for the 65-year-old manager, highlighted by Spain’s recent triumph at the World Cup. ## A Career Built Through the Ranks Unlike many modern managers who transitioned into coaching immediately after high- profile playing careers, de la Fuente’s path was more unconventional. After a modest stint in club management, he discovered an advertisement for a youth team position with the Spanish Football Federation in 2013. He applied for the role, beginning a 13-year journey that saw him work his way through the national youth system. This long-term development proved pivotal, as several players he coached at the Under- 19 level eventually became the core of his senior squad, helping him secure the Nations League, Euro 2024, and the World Cup. ## The Road to World Cup Glory De la Fuente’s tenure was defined by his unwavering confidence in his squad, even during challenging moments. Despite an initial goalless draw against Cape Verde during the World Cup in the United States, the manager maintained that he possessed the strongest team in the competition. The team’s momentum grew steadily throughout the tournament, culminating in a 2-0 victory over France in the semi-finals. In the final match held in New Jersey, Spain defeated Argentina 1-0, with Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal in a match characterized by physical play. ## Philosophy and Recognition Reflecting on his success, de la Fuente attributed the achievement to the collective efforts of his players. “Teamwork makes us invincible,” he stated during the ceremony, emphasizing that his role is supported by an exceptional pool of talent. He noted that the success of the Spanish national team serves as a testament to the country’s robust youth development programs, which he believes provide a sustainable blueprint for future success. ## Spanish Success at the Ballon d’Or The success for Spanish football extended beyond the men’s category. Pere Romeu, the coach of Barcelona, was honored with the women’s coaching award. Romeu’s recognition follows a dominant season for his club, during which they secured the Spanish league title, the Spanish cup, the Super Cup, and the Champions League trophy. As de la Fuente looks back on his career, he views this award as recognition for years of consistent effort. While information regarding his future tactical plans or specific upcoming fixtures was not provided in the source material, the award solidifies his standing as a central figure in the current landscape of international football management. < p class=”vbna-source-note”>**Source:** [Channels Television](https://www.channelstv.com/2026/10/27/de-la-fuente-wins-mens-ballon-dor-coach-of-the-year/) TL;DR (AI Generated) Luis de la Fuente was named Men’s Coach of the Year at the Ballon d’Or ceremony following Spain’s triumphs under his leadership, including their recent World Cup victory.
