Two late strikes from substitutes rescued a 2-2 draw for Katsina United against Plateau United, preserving their unbeaten home record in Matchday 10.

Katsina United mounted a dramatic late comeback to salvage a 2-2 draw against Plateau United in Saturday’s standalone Nigeria Premier Football League fixture at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, according to league match reports.

Plateau United Takes the First-Half Lead

The encounter began with early opportunities for the home side. Katsina United’s Nura Abdulbari came close to breaking the deadlock in the 16th minute but was unable to convert his chance. Plateau United capitalized on their opportunities later in the half. In the 30th minute, a corner delivered by Victor Dawa was deflected into the net for an own goal, putting the visitors in front.

Plateau United, managed by Gbenga Ogunbote, weathered a series of counterattacks from the hosts to carry their one-goal cushion into the halftime interval.

Late Thrills at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium

The tempo of the second half remained quiet until the closing ten minutes, when both teams combined for three goals in rapid succession. In the 82nd minute, Plateau United appeared to put the match out of reach. Nenrot Silas delivered a precise pass through to Jibril Ibrahim, who slotted the ball past Katsina United goalkeeper Francis Koroma to double the visitors’ lead.

With Plateau United leading 2-0, Katsina United responded almost immediately through their bench. Just two minutes after conceding, substitute Yusha’u Armiya’u found the net in the 84th minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1 and re-energize the home supporters.

Stoppage-Time Equalizer Denies Away Win

Katsina United completed their turnaround deep into added time. Another substitute, Umar Rabiu, struck from close range to level the score at 2-2 just before the final whistle.

The stoppage-time equalizer carried significant consequences for both sides. The result denied Plateau United what would have been their first away victory of the current campaign, while simultaneously sparing Katsina United from suffering their first home defeat this season.

The fixture opened Matchday 10 action in the league, which is scheduled to continue with seven matches on Sunday, including an encounter between league leaders Rivers United and Bendel Insurance.
