A public disagreement has surfaced between two prominent former government officials,
Laolu Akande and Babachir Lawal, following accusations leveled against former Vice
President Yemi Osinbajo. According to a report by _Naija News_, Akande, who served
as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity in the Office
of the Vice President, has publicly refuted claims made by Lawal, the former Secretary
to the Government of the Federation.

## The Nature of the Dispute

The conflict centers on allegations brought forward by Lawal concerning the conduct
and actions of the former Vice President. While specific details regarding the nature
of the alleged misconduct were not fully elaborated in the initial report, Akande
characterized Lawal’s statements as a **false allegation**. Akande expressed significant
personal surprise at the claims, stating, “I’m shocked you will tell such lie,”
in response to the assertions made by his former colleague.

## Context of the Relationship

Both individuals held high-ranking positions within the administration of former
President Muhammadu Buhari. Babachir Lawal served as the Secretary to the Government
of the Federation during the early years of the administration, while Laolu Akande
acted as the primary media spokesperson for Vice President Osinbajo throughout the
administration’s tenure. Their public exchange highlights the ongoing discourse
surrounding the legacy and actions of the previous executive cabinet.

## Public Accountability and Political Discourse

The exchange serves as a reminder of the tensions that can persist after officials
leave public office. In the Nigerian political landscape, it is not uncommon for
former associates to engage in public rebuttals when historical narratives are contested.
Akande’s direct response to Lawal suggests a firm commitment to defending the record
of the former Vice President against what he deems to be inaccuracies. As of the
time of this report, there has been no further clarification from Lawal regarding
the specific evidence he may have intended to present to support his claims.

## Conclusion

The disagreement between Laolu Akande and Babachir Lawal underscores the complexities
of political accountability in the post-administration period. By publicly challenging
the veracity of Lawal’s statements, Akande has signaled a continued effort to manage
the public perception of the former Vice President’s time in office. Whether this
dispute will lead to further revelations or remain a singular point of contention
between the two former aides remains to be seen.
