Academic staff across three Lagos State-owned universities have officially suspended
their industrial action and are set to resume classroom teaching immediately, according
to a report by _Vanguard News_. The decision concludes a period of disruption for
students and academic staff across the affected state institutions.

## Institutions Affected by the Decision

According to the union announcement reported by _Vanguard News_, the suspension
applies to three state tertiary institutions:

 * Lagos State University (LASU)
 * Lagos State University of Education (LASUED)
 * Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH)

The resolution brings immediate relief to enrolled students, families, and campus
communities whose academic calendars had been interrupted by the standoff between
the academic union chapters and authorities.

## Focus on Staff Welfare and Outstanding Agreements

The industrial dispute centered primarily on demands for improved staff welfare
and the full implementation of existing academic agreements. In a joint statement
issued by chapter leaders—Olusegun Babalola of ASUU-LASU, Grace Abimbola of ASUU-
LASUED, and Murisiku Onigemo of ASUU-LASUTECH—the unions described the suspension
as a significant milestone in their negotiations.

The union representatives expressed gratitude to multiple public bodies and civil
society groups that supported their advocacy. Specific acknowledgment was extended
to traditional rulers for diplomatic interventions, as well as worker advocacy groups
including the Joint Action Front (JAF), Education Rights Concern (ERC), and the
Campaign for Democratic Workers Rights (CDWR). The leadership also praised students
and parents for their patience while academic activities were stalled.

## Next Steps in Negotiations

While teaching is resuming immediately, the union leaders noted that discussions
are not entirely concluded. The joint statement emphasized that the lecturers plan
to maintain active dialogue with the Lagos State Government to ensure that all remaining
issues concerning their welfare packages are resolved conclusively.

The specific timeline or formal terms of the final agreement between the state administration
and the academic unions were not detailed in the report, but the immediate reopening
of classrooms marks a crucial step toward stabilizing the academic calendar across
Lagos State tertiary institutions.
