The Lagos State Police Command has initiated disciplinary proceedings against four
police officers following the emergence of a viral video that allegedly captured
the harassment of a young man in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu. In response to the
incident, the command has officially disbanded the tactical team to which the officers
were attached.

## Details of the Disciplinary Action

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi,
on Friday, the four officers were identified as personnel belonging to the Imota/
Immortal Tactical Team. The investigation into the footage led to the officers being
summoned to the office of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, on Thursday.

Following the meeting, the Commissioner ordered the immediate detention of the four
officers. SP Adebisi confirmed that the individuals are currently being held at
the command headquarters in Ikeja to face further inquiries and formal disciplinary
processes. While three of the officers were presented at the headquarters, the fourth
officer is also in custody, though they were not part of the public presentation.

## Command Stance on Professional Conduct

The decision to disband the entire tactical team marks a significant administrative
response to the allegations. Commissioner Tijani Fatai has publicly addressed the
incident, emphasizing that the command maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding
impunity. The Commissioner stated that police personnel are expected to perform
their duties with both integrity and humility, noting that misconduct will not be
overlooked.

The police spokesperson further assured the public that the command is committed
to taking appropriate actions as the investigation continues. The statement did
not provide specific details regarding the timeline for the disciplinary hearings
or the specific nature of the charges the officers might face beyond the general
allegations of harassment.

## Community Involvement and Reporting

The Lagos State Police Command has publicly acknowledged the role of the local community
in the swift identification of the officers involved. The command expressed gratitude
to residents for their cooperation in bringing the video to the attention of authorities.

The police have encouraged members of the public to continue reporting instances
of officer misconduct. By fostering a collaborative relationship with the community,
the command aims to ensure greater accountability within its ranks. As of the latest
update, the command has not released further information regarding the status of
the disbanded unit’s other members or whether additional personnel may face scrutiny
as the inquiry proceeds.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Police to address
concerns regarding police-civilian interactions and the enforcement of professional
standards within specialized tactical units.
