Kelechi Iheanacho Sets New Scoring Benchmark in Turkish 1. Lig

Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho has reached a significant milestone in his career, extending his goal-scoring streak to 12 consecutive league matches. According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria, the forward achieved this feat during Bursaspor’s 4-2 victory over Keçiörengücü in the Turkish 1. Lig on Sunday.

A Decisive Performance at Aktepe Stadium

The match was a back-and-forth affair that saw Bursaspor eventually secure all three points. Keçiörengücü opened the scoring early through an own goal by Emirhan Başyiğit in the seventh minute. Bursaspor responded quickly, with Amine Boutrah leveling the score shortly after. Lewis Baker then gave the visitors the lead in the 35th minute, but Oğuzcan Çalışkan equalized for the hosts just before halftime.

Iheanacho broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, netting the goal that put Bursaspor ahead 3-2. Lincoln later added a fourth goal to seal the win. This strike was particularly notable as it marked Iheanacho’s 12th consecutive game finding the back of the net in league competition.

Breaking Personal Records

The Daily Post Nigeria reports that this achievement surpasses Iheanacho’s previous record of scoring in 11 successive league fixtures. The forward, who has previously played for clubs including Leicester City and Celtic, has demonstrated a high level of efficiency since joining Bursaspor. Current statistics indicate he has recorded 16 goals in just 12 appearances for the club.

Context of the Achievement

Iheanacho’s current form is a significant development for Bursaspor as they navigate their campaign in the Turkish second division. While the report highlights his individual success, it also underscores the importance of his contributions to the team’s overall pursuit of their seasonal objectives. As of the time of the report, there is no information regarding his long-term contract status or specific transfer interest from other clubs, though his current performance level is likely to draw attention.

Looking Ahead

As Bursaspor continues its pursuit in the Turkish 1. Lig, the focus will remain on whether Iheanacho can maintain this scoring pace. The forward has established himself as a central figure in the team’s offensive strategy, and his ability to consistently find the net has been a primary factor in their recent success. Supporters and observers will be watching to see if he can extend this streak in upcoming fixtures.
