Usman Shehu Bawa, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for
the 2027 Kaduna State election, has officially suspended his campaign activities.
The decision follows a fatal motor accident that resulted in the deaths of three
party members who were traveling home after attending a political meeting in Kaduna.

## Details of the Incident

According to a statement released by Bawa’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, the accident
occurred while the victims were returning from a party engagement. The deceased
were identified as:

 * **Caleb Ishaya Alot**, the Secretary of the PDP in Jema’a Local Government Area.
 * **Mercy Achi**, the Women Leader for Wise Ward.
 * **Charity Bahago**, a member of the PDP in Wise Ward.

The candidate expressed deep sorrow regarding the loss, describing the event as
a painful tragedy for both the families involved and the broader PDP organization
in Kaduna State. In addition to the fatalities, Bawa acknowledged that other individuals
sustained injuries in the crash and offered prayers for their speedy recovery.

## Impact on Campaign Schedule

The suspension of activities is immediate and indefinite. Specifically, the candidate
has postponed the inauguration of his campaign council, which was originally slated
for this coming Saturday. The campaign office has expressed regret for any inconvenience
this sudden change in schedule may cause to invited guests and stakeholders who
were prepared to attend the launch.

### Moving Forward

As of the time of reporting, the campaign has not provided a revised timeline for
the resumption of political activities. The focus remains on mourning the loss of
the party officials from Jema’a Local Government Area. Bawa has extended his condolences
to the bereaved families and the local community, emphasizing the weight of the
loss to the party’s structure in the region.

While political campaigns often operate on strict timelines, the suspension highlights
the human element of electoral processes, particularly in regions where party officials
frequently travel to attend central meetings. The PDP in Kaduna has yet to release
further information regarding potential memorial services or how this event might
influence the long-term strategy for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
