Jigawa Police Tackle Motorcycle Theft with Recent Arrest and Recoveries
Authorities in Jigawa State have apprehended a suspect in connection with a motorcycle theft in Hadejia, while also recovering an abandoned vehicle in a separate incident.
Arrest Made in Hadejia Theft
The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old man, identified as Hassan Adamu, following an investigation into the theft of a motorcycle in the Hadejia Local Government Area. According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the suspect is a resident of the Tudun Wada Quarters.
The incident reportedly took place on October 22, 2026, in the Nassarawa Quarters. The owner of the motorcycle had parked the vehicle outside his home to attend prayers at a nearby mosque. Upon his return, he discovered the motorcycle was missing and reported the incident to local authorities. Police operatives launched an investigation that resulted in the recovery of the stolen red Boxer motorcycle and the subsequent arrest of Adamu. The suspect has since been arraigned in court to face prosecution.
Recovery of Abandoned Property
In a separate operation, police officers attached to the Garki Division recovered another red Boxer motorcycle during a routine patrol on October 26, 2026. The vehicle, which displayed a Lagos State registration number (LND 130 QN), was found abandoned along the Garki–Danzomo Road.
On October 29, an individual arrived at the police station asserting ownership of the recovered motorcycle, stating that it had been stolen from his residence. The police have released the motorcycle to the claimant on bond, though the department noted that the verification of ownership documents is still ongoing.
Police Guidance for Motorcycle Owners
Following these incidents, the Commissioner of Police for Jigawa State, CP Tijjani Murtala, issued a commendation to the officers involved for their vigilance and rapid response to reports of criminal activity. The Commissioner also took the opportunity to provide guidance to the public regarding the security of their personal property.
The police have encouraged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior to the nearest police station immediately. Furthermore, owners of motorcycles are advised to:
- Implement additional security precautions to deter potential thieves.
- Maintain organized and safe records of all motorcycle documentation.
- Ensure that registration details are easily accessible to assist law enforcement in the event of theft or recovery.
The Jigawa State Police Command has not provided further details regarding the specific security measures recommended for motorcycle owners, nor have they released additional information regarding the ongoing investigation into the abandoned motorcycle recovered in Garki.
