Authorities in Jigawa State have taken three individuals into custody following separate incidents of alleged electrical cable theft in Guri and Dutse.

The Jigawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of three men suspected of involvement in the theft of electrical infrastructure. According to an official statement released on Saturday, October 24, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the arrests occurred across two different local government areas.

Details of the Guri Incident

In the first reported case, police officers stationed at the Guri Division apprehended 23-year-old Abdullahi Maina. The arrest took place on October 21, 2026, at approximately 09:30 hours. Law enforcement officials reported that Maina, a resident of Fulatari Quarters in Nguru, Yobe State, was found in possession of high-tension electrical cables hidden inside a sack. The recovered items have been secured as evidence, and police indicate that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend any potential accomplices involved in the act.

Arrests in Dutse

A separate incident occurred on the same day in Dutse, where police arrested two additional suspects. Ahmed Garba, 20, and Abdullahi Garba, 25, both residents of Jigawa Tsada, were taken into custody following allegations of stealing armoured cables from the Manpower Development Institute. Authorities allege that the two men conspired to gain unlawful entry into the institute’s premises to carry out the theft.

Ongoing Investigations and Legal Proceedings

All three suspects are currently being held in police custody. The Jigawa State Police Command stated that the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse is conducting a thorough inquiry to determine the full extent of these incidents and whether the suspects are linked to a broader network of infrastructure theft. The command confirmed that the suspects will be formally charged in court once the investigative process is complete.

Commitment to Infrastructure Protection

The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, CP Tijjani Murtala, addressed the incidents by emphasizing the command’s dedication to safeguarding public infrastructure. The theft and destruction of essential facilities remain a priority for the force. Commissioner Murtala has called upon the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to assist in the prevention of further damage to public property.

As of the time of the police statement, no further details regarding the value of the stolen equipment or the specific circumstances leading to the suspects’ identification were provided.
