The Imo State Police Command has officially launched an investigation into the conduct
of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gabriel Utuh, who serves as a team leader
for the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) stationed along the Owerri-Orlu road. The probe
follows the circulation of a viral video that allegedly captures the officer assaulting
a civilian while on duty.

## Official Response to Viral Footage

According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the
police authorities identified the officer shortly after the footage began circulating
online. The Command has confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the incident
are currently under thorough review to determine the sequence of events.

The police have emphasized that the investigation will be conducted with impartiality,
adhering to the principles of professional accountability. Commissioner of Police
Audu Garba Bosso has expressed a firm stance on the matter, noting that the Command
maintains a policy of zero tolerance regarding unprofessional conduct, the abuse
of authority, and the violation of the fundamental rights of citizens.

## Disciplinary Procedures and Public Accountability

The Command has stated that should the investigation conclude that ASP Utuh is guilty
of the alleged offense, appropriate disciplinary measures will be enforced. This
move is part of a broader effort by the state police leadership to address concerns
regarding officer conduct and maintain public trust.

To facilitate the investigation, the Command has reached out to the victim of the
alleged assault. The victim has been formally directed to contact the Command’s
Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at 08148024755. Officials have indicated that the
victim’s testimony is essential to ensuring a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.

## Context of Police Oversight

While the specific details regarding what triggered the confrontation remain under
investigation, the incident highlights the ongoing role of digital evidence in police
oversight. Viral videos have increasingly become a primary mechanism for public
scrutiny of law enforcement actions in Nigeria, often prompting rapid administrative
responses from state commands.

The Imo State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline
within its ranks. As the investigation progresses, the public awaits further updates
on the findings and any subsequent actions taken by the police authorities to address
the alleged misconduct.

_Note: Information regarding the specific date of the incident or the identity of
the victim has not been disclosed by the Imo State Police Command at this time._
