House Member Ozodinobi Steps Down from DNA Federal Constituency Race
Representative George Ibezimako Ozodinobi has withdrawn from the contest for the Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia seat, citing a 2023 agreement to back a candidate from Dunukofia.
Representative George Ibezimako Ozodinobi, the lawmaker representing the Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia (DNA) Federal Constituency and Acting Minority Leader of Nigeria’s 10th House of Representatives, has formally pulled out of the upcoming contest for the seat. According to a signed press statement reported by Daily News Reporters, Ozodinobi attributed his exit to extensive dialogue with family members, political associates, and local stakeholders.
Honouring a Prior Zoning Commitment
The lawmaker explained that his decision was primarily anchored on an agreement he made in 2023 to endorse a candidate originating from Dunukofia for the parliamentary seat. Ozodinobi stressed that maintaining his word and preserving long-term credibility took precedence over immediate personal ambition.
Addressing recent political discourse surrounding the contest, Ozodinobi dismissed claims that his departure was prompted by intimidation or outside pressure. Per Daily News Reporters, he argued that stepping aside was an intentional move aimed at honouring his pledge and protecting his public integrity, despite what he described as misinformation and attempts by competing aspirants to distort his stance.
Broader Political Objectives
In his statement, Ozodinobi referenced his political trajectory, noting prior bids including a senatorial ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before later affiliations described in the report. He underlined that his current political choices remain aligned with higher collective priorities rather than individual office-seeking.
Specifically, Ozodinobi maintained that his personal political aspirations remain secondary to the wider national mission of supporting Peter Obi’s presidential ambitions. He stated that he stays dedicated to that broader political direction while serving his constituents in the National Assembly.
A Push for Grassroots Unity and Competence
Looking ahead to the upcoming primary and general election cycles, Ozodinobi urged party members, community leaders, and supporters across the DNA Federal Constituency to avoid infighting and remain unified. He called on stakeholders to rally behind a credible contender from Dunukofia, emphasizing that candidate selection should focus on competence, capacity, and authentic grassroots appeal rather than hostility or divisive rhetoric.
The lawmaker warned against negative campaigns and deliberate falsehoods, cautioning that internal friction threatens community development across Anaocha, Njikoka, and Dunukofia. Ozodinobi pledged to actively mobilize support for the eventual consensus candidate to secure electoral success for the party, while promising to continue his legislative duties in the 10th Assembly and contribute to the constituency’s advancement.
