Ekiti Governor Sets 80% Vote Target for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

Governor Biodun Oyebanji has tasked Ekiti State APC members with securing 80% of registered votes for President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 election, citing federal support as a key motivator.

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has issued a directive to All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in his state, setting an ambitious target of securing 80 percent of registered votes for President Bola Tinubu in the presidential election scheduled for January 2027. The governor issued this challenge during the inauguration of the Ekiti State chapter of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Ado-Ekiti.

Mobilizing the Grassroots

The governor emphasized that the path to electoral success lies in direct, personal engagement with voters. He specifically urged party members to reach out to undecided voters and those who possess Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) but have historically abstained from participating in elections. According to the report from Channels Television, the governor stressed that the party must identify these individuals and encourage them to turn out on election day to ensure a decisive victory.

To facilitate this outreach, the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, led by Government Ekpemupolo (also known as Tompolo), donated 25 campaign vehicles to the state chapter. These vehicles are intended to bolster mobilization efforts across local communities.

The Case for Continuity

The event highlighted a narrative of federal-state cooperation. Governor Oyebanji credited the Tinubu administration with providing significant support to Ekiti State, which he claimed has been instrumental in his own administration’s development projects. He remarked that, in his view, no president in the state’s 30-year history has been as supportive as the current administration.

Representing the movement’s convener, Kestin Pondi argued that the current administration’s economic reforms require more time to reach full maturity. The movement contends that these policies have already improved the fiscal capacity of state governments, enabling them to better manage financial obligations such as public sector salaries, pensions, and infrastructure development. Pondi stated that the movement has visited 19 states, where governors have similarly reported positive impacts from these federal economic reforms.

Strategic Challenges Ahead

While the governor expressed confidence in achieving the 80 percent target, he framed the goal as a collective challenge for party members. He urged stakeholders to view the target as a way to demonstrate gratitude for the federal government’s ongoing contributions to the state. The movement’s leadership also challenged other political aspirants to clearly articulate how their proposed programs would improve upon the current administration’s policies.

As of the time of reporting, the specific strategies for monitoring voter turnout or addressing potential logistical hurdles in the 2027 election cycle were not detailed. The governor concluded by assuring the movement that the donated vehicles would be deployed effectively to support the broader campaign objectives across Ekiti State.
