Chief Emmanuel Igwe, the spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship
candidate in Ebonyi State, has publicly refuted claims that he is planning to defect
to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The clarification comes in response
to widespread speculation triggered by his presence at an event held at the Ecumenical
Centre in Abakaliki on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

## Context of the Appearance

According to a statement issued by Igwe, the confusion originated from his attendance
at a venue where a town hall meeting for former members of the State Executive Council
was taking place. Igwe explained that he had received a digital invitation to the
gathering earlier that day but had deliberately chosen to ignore it to avoid the
political implications that his presence might suggest, especially given the proximity
to the 2027 governorship election.

Igwe stated that his actual reason for visiting the Ecumenical Centre was to address
a private matter with Rev. Father Abraham Nwali. Upon arriving to meet the clergyman,
he encountered several prominent political figures and associates. He noted that
he engaged in standard social pleasantries with individuals including former Deputy
Governor Professor Chigozie Ogbu, Senator Julius Ali Ucha, and Hon. Innocent Ugo
Chima, as well as representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)
and organized labor unions.

## Addressing the Speculation

The spokesperson reported that his name was announced by the event’s Master of Ceremonies,
which drew public attention to his presence. He emphasized that he departed the
venue before the official commencement of the meeting. Despite this, rumors concerning
his political allegiance began to circulate shortly thereafter.

In his statement, Igwe expressed frustration at how routine social interactions
are frequently interpreted through a lens of political conspiracy. He stated, “Must
political relationships in Ebonyi State be reduced to hostility, suspicion and unnecessary
conspiracy theories?”

## Commitment to the PDP

Igwe used the statement to reaffirm his loyalty to the PDP and its governorship
candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii. He explicitly stated that he is not contemplating
a move to the APC, describing the rumors as an attempt to attach political significance
to an ordinary encounter. He urged those spreading the claims to focus on substantive
issues affecting the residents of Ebonyi State rather than scrutinizing social gestures.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the APC
regarding these claims, and the information provided remains based solely on the
statement released by Chief Emmanuel Igwe.

### Conclusion

The incident highlights the heightened political sensitivity in Ebonyi State as
the 2027 election cycle approaches. By clarifying his position, the PDP spokesperson
has sought to quell rumors that could potentially impact the party’s internal cohesion
and public perception.

  TL;DR (AI Generated)

Chief Emmanuel Igwe, the PDP spokesperson in Ebonyi State, has strongly denied rumors
that he is planning to defect to the ruling APC.

He explained that his presence at the Ecumenical Centre was merely to see a clergyman
for a private matter rather than to attend a political meeting.

Igwe reaffirmed his absolute loyalty to the PDP and its governorship candidate,
urging the public to ignore misleading conspiracy theories.
