Athletes from Delta, Abia, and Rivers states have qualified to represent Nigeria at the upcoming Teqball World Championships in Budapest following a competitive qualifying tournament in Aba.

Following a rigorous qualifying tournament held at the Aba Sports Club, Nigeria has finalized its roster for the 2026 Teqball World Championships. Athletes representing Delta, Abia, and Rivers states emerged as the top performers, securing their tickets to compete on the global stage in Budapest, Hungary, this December.

Dominance and Results in Aba

The qualifying event, which saw participation from 14 states, showcased a high level of competition across men’s and women’s singles and doubles categories. According to the Daily Post Nigeria, Delta State led the overall medal table, securing three gold, three silver, and one bronze medal. Abia State followed in second place with one gold and two silver medals, while Rivers State earned one gold and three bronze medals. Lagos State also participated, taking home a bronze medal.

Delta State’s Victor Oyemade, recognized as Nigeria’s top-ranked Tequer, solidified his position by defeating teammate Mikel Enebechukwu in the men’s singles final with scores of 12-8 and 12-5. In the women’s singles category, Rejoice Jatau, also representing Delta, claimed the title after a victory over Efemena Ekeke, finishing 12-8 and 12-7.

Doubles Success and Global Ambitions

The doubles matches provided some of the tournament’s most intense moments. In the women’s doubles, Abia State’s Aganmuyi Omokehinde and Mariam Abdulasheed secured their qualification by defeating Delta’s Efemena Ekeke and Miracle Edafe in a closely contested match that ended 12-10, 12-9.

Rivers State also ensured representation at the world stage through Joshua Musa and Ikoko Andrew. The pair claimed the men’s doubles title after a comeback victory against Abia’s Khalid Yahyah and Tobi Mejedji, winning 8-12, 12-5, 12-9.

Official Support and Future Outlook

The event was hosted in Aba, drawing praise from local officials. Abia State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, and State Director of Sports, Obioma George, publicly commended Governor Alex Otti for his support in ensuring the successful hosting of the qualifying games. The officials expressed confidence in the athletes, charging them to perform well and represent Nigeria effectively against international competitors.

As the selected athletes prepare for the trip to Budapest, they carry the responsibility of representing the nation in a sport that continues to gain traction globally. While specific details regarding the training schedule or travel logistics for the Nigerian delegation were not provided in the source report, the focus remains on the upcoming December competition where these five gold-medal-winning entries will face the world’s elite Teqball players.
