Galatasaray’s recent 4-2 victory over Lille in the UEFA Champions League has sparked
an unexpected debate regarding individual accolades. While Victor Osimhen marked
the occasion by scoring his first goal for the club in the competition, the decision
to name him the Man of the Match has drawn sharp criticism from a prominent figure
in Turkish football.

## The Controversy Over the Award

Ahmet Çakar, a former Turkish referee, expressed his disagreement with the selection
during an appearance on the BTV YouTube channel. According to reports from _Daily
Post Nigeria_, Çakar characterized the decision as “unfair,” arguing that while
Osimhen’s performance was not poor, other players had a more significant impact
on the outcome of the match.

Osimhen, the Nigerian forward, found the back of the net to secure Galatasaray’s
fourth goal at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Despite this contribution, Çakar believes
the recognition should have gone to others who he feels were more instrumental in
the team’s success.

## Players Identified as Alternatives

In his critique, Çakar explicitly named three players he believes were more deserving
of the Man of the Match title:

 * **Barış Alper Yılmaz:** Highlighted for his contributions throughout the match.
 * **Batrakov:** Cited by Çakar as a key performer who deserved consideration.
 * **Yunus Akgün:** Also listed as a player whose impact outweighed that of the
   goalscorer.

The former referee’s comments highlight the subjective nature of post-match awards,
where goal-scoring often takes precedence over other tactical contributions in the
eyes of officials and fans alike.

## Osimhen’s Season Trajectory

Regardless of the criticism surrounding this specific accolade, Victor Osimhen has
enjoyed a productive start to his campaign with Galatasaray. Statistical data indicates
that the forward has been highly influential, recording seven goals and three assists
across eight appearances in all competitions this season.

The player has not publicly responded to the controversy. According to the source,
Osimhen remains focused on maintaining his current form and continuing his contributions
to the team’s ongoing objectives for the season.

## Conclusion

While the debate over the Man of the Match award serves as a point of contention
for observers like Ahmet Çakar, it does little to diminish the broader success Galatasaray
has experienced in their recent European campaign. As the season progresses, the
focus for both Osimhen and his teammates will likely remain on their collective
performance rather than individual honors.
