Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former vice-presidential candidate for the Labour Party,
has issued a sharp response to supporters of Peter Obi, commonly referred to as “
Obidients.” In a recent interview with Symfoni TV, Baba-Ahmed expressed frustration
over the backlash he has faced from the movement, suggesting that his attempts to
speak candidly about Peter Obi have been met with hostility.

## The Source of the Conflict

The friction stems from Baba-Ahmed’s recent public criticism regarding Peter Obi’s
political maneuvers, specifically his involvement in the African Democratic Congress(
ADC) coalition. According to the report from _Daily Post Nigeria_, these comments
prompted significant pushback from Obi’s base, with some supporters accusing Baba-
Ahmed of disloyalty and suggesting he may be acting in the interest of other political
figures, such as Atiku Abubakar.

## Baba-Ahmed’s Stance on Internal Criticism

During the interview, Baba-Ahmed maintained that his critiques are rooted in his
perspective on the truth. He characterized the reaction from Obidients as an attempt
to silence him, stating, “Obidients are always eager to attack me. I have more damaging
things to reveal. You attack me because I told you the truth about Peter Obi.”

Baba-Ahmed emphasized that he remains a member of the Labour Party. However, he
indicated that he is unwilling to remain quiet regarding his interpretation of events
surrounding the 2023 general election. He suggested that many of his critics lack
a full understanding of the internal dynamics and occurrences of that period.

## Contextualizing the Political Climate

The 2023 presidential election remains a significant touchstone in Nigerian politics,
and the Labour Party’s performance has been a subject of ongoing analysis. While
Baba-Ahmed has alluded to “damaging secrets” regarding both Peter Obi and the election,
the specific details of these claims have not been disclosed in the source material.
It is currently unclear what specific information he possesses or how he intends
to verify these assertions.

### Moving Forward

As of this report, there has been no official response from Peter Obi or his representatives
regarding Baba-Ahmed’s latest comments. The situation highlights the ongoing internal
challenges within the Labour Party as it navigates post-election strategies and
shifting political alliances. Whether these public exchanges will lead to a formal
reconciliation or a deeper fracture within the party remains to be seen.
