In a remarkable display of offensive prowess, Italian club Como secured a dominant
9-1 victory against French side Lens during their recent Champions League fixture.
According to reports from _Channels Television_, the result marks a significant
milestone in the modern era of Europe’s premier club tournament, as Como equaled
the record for the most goals scored by a single team in a match.

## A Historic Performance

The match, which took place in France, saw Como dismantle the Lens defense throughout
the 90 minutes. Leading the charge for the visitors was Anastasios Douvikas, who
netted a hat-trick to propel his side toward the historic scoreline. The team, currently
managed by Cesc Fabregas, has now secured three victories in their four appearances
during the current league phase of the competition.

The scale of the defeat is notable for French football, as _Channels Television_
reports that this represents the heaviest loss ever suffered by a French team in
the history of the Champions League.

## Contextualizing the Record

To understand the magnitude of Como’s achievement, it is helpful to look at the
historical context of high-scoring Champions League matches. The 9-1 scoreline places
Como alongside a select group of teams that have dominated their opponents in the
modern era of the competition:

 * **Bayern Munich:** Achieved a 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in 2024.
 * **Liverpool:** Previously recorded an 8-0 win during the group stage.
 * **Real Madrid:** Also holds an 8-0 victory in the competition’s group stage history.

While Como’s performance matches the goal-scoring record for a single team, it remains
distinct from the highest-scoring matches overall, which account for the total goals
scored by both sides combined.

## Looking Ahead

For Como, the victory serves as a major statement of intent in their European campaign.
Under the guidance of Fabregas, the squad has demonstrated an ability to capitalize
on opportunities at the highest level of continental football. As the league phase
progresses, the Italian outfit will look to build on this momentum, though the specific
tactical adjustments made by the coaching staff to achieve such a lopsided result
were not detailed in the source material.

The loss presents a significant challenge for Lens, who must now regroup following
a defeat that will likely be remembered as one of the most difficult nights in the
club’s recent European history. As the tournament continues, the focus will shift
to whether Como can maintain this level of offensive output against tougher opposition
in the knockout stages.
