The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 60-year-old man in
connection with the alleged defilement of a 10-year-old girl. The incident reportedly
occurred in the Igumale district of Ado Local Government Area, drawing renewed attention
to the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address violent crimes against minors
in the region.

## Details of the Investigation

According to reports provided by the Daily Post Nigeria, the incident was formally
brought to the attention of the authorities on October 13, 2026. Following the report,
the victim was transported to a medical facility to undergo a professional examination
and receive necessary care. The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu,
addressed the media in Makurdi to confirm that the suspect is currently in custody
and that a formal investigation into the allegations is underway.

Commissioner Nwadiogbu emphasized that the police command is committed to ensuring
the suspect faces legal consequences should the investigation confirm culpability.
Furthermore, the command has pledged to prioritize the welfare and privacy of the
young victim as the legal process moves forward.

## Broader Security Operations in Benue

The arrest was highlighted by Commissioner Nwadiogbu as part of a wider series of
security operations conducted by the Benue State Police throughout October 2026.
During this period, the command reported several significant enforcement actions,
including:

 * The apprehension of 14 suspects involved in various criminal activities.
 * The recovery of seven locally manufactured firearms.
 * The seizure of 16 rounds of ammunition and various cartridges.
 * The neutralization of one suspected bandit during security operations.

The Commissioner attributed these operational successes to a strategic shift toward
intelligence-driven policing. He noted that the command’s ability to respond effectively
to criminal threats has been bolstered by rapid responses to emergency calls, consistent
patrol schedules, and improved collaboration with community stakeholders and other
security agencies operating within the state.

## Call for Community Vigilance

In his address, Commissioner Nwadiogbu urged residents of Benue State to remain
vigilant and proactive in reporting criminal behavior. He stressed that the timely
reporting of incidents—particularly those involving violence or abuse—is essential
for law enforcement to intervene effectively and prevent future offenses. While
the police continue to work on the current case, the command maintains that public
cooperation remains a cornerstone of their strategy to maintain law and order in
the state.

As of the time of reporting, no further details regarding the suspect’s identity
or the specific timeline for court proceedings have been released by the police.

### Conclusion

The arrest in Ado LGA serves as a reminder of the critical role that both law enforcement
and community reporting play in protecting vulnerable populations. As the investigation
into this case continues, the Benue State Police Command has signaled its intent
to pursue the matter through the legal system while maintaining a broader focus
on regional security and crime prevention.
