Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia Launches 2027 Re-election Campaign

Olamide

Governor Hyacinth Alia has officially inaugurated the Tinubu/Alia 2027 Campaign Council in Benue State, signaling an early start to the All Progressives Congress's push for re-election.

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has formally inaugurated the Tinubu/Alia 2027 Campaign Council, marking the beginning of the All Progressives Congress (APC) preparations for the upcoming general elections. The event, held at IBB Square in Makurdi, saw the appointment of Hon. Citizen Richard Asema as the Director-General of the campaign.

Focusing on Continuity and Sustainability

During the inauguration, Governor Alia emphasized that his primary motivation for seeking re-election is to ensure the sustainability of ongoing projects. He stated that his administration aims to consolidate existing achievements rather than initiating new projects from scratch. According to the governor, the administration’s development blueprint, which has been in implementation since 2023, requires additional time to fully mature and deliver lasting benefits to the state.

The governor highlighted several key areas of progress, including:

  • Infrastructure: Efforts to connect all 23 local government areas via road networks are reportedly 75% complete.
  • Public Services: The recruitment of 9,700 primary school teachers and the regular payment of salaries and pensions.
  • Revived Projects: The completion of previously abandoned facilities, such as the Taraku Mills, the International Conference Centre, and the Cancer Centre at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital.

The Federal-State Partnership

Governor Alia credited much of his administration’s success to the support received from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government. He noted that federal interventions have been instrumental in improving security operations and restoring peace to troubled communities within Benue. The governor argued that this partnership is essential for the state to regain its economic standing.

In a statement provided by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor outlined a vision for the future that prioritizes industrialization, agriculture, and strategic investments in healthcare and commerce. He expressed optimism regarding the state’s potential, noting that emerging oil and gas prospects, combined with Benue’s agricultural capacity, could eventually reduce the state’s reliance on federal allocations.

Campaign Strategy and Internal Unity

Addressing the newly formed campaign council, Governor Alia urged members to prioritize unity and commitment. He acknowledged that the political landscape often involves internal grievances and encouraged party members to embrace reconciliation to ensure a cohesive effort toward victory. Regarding the appointment of Hon. Citizen Richard Asema, the governor described him as an experienced leader capable of coordinating the campaign effectively.

Following the inauguration, the administration commissioned the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Office in the Wurukum area of Makurdi, further solidifying the joint ticket strategy for the 2027 cycle.

Conclusion

As the 2027 election cycle approaches, the inauguration of the Tinubu/Alia Campaign Council serves as a clear indicator of the APC’s intent to maintain its current trajectory in Benue State. While the governor has outlined a platform focused on continuity and the completion of existing infrastructure and social programs, the success of this campaign will depend on the party’s ability to maintain internal cohesion and deliver on its stated development goals.
