Authorities in Bend, Oregon, have disclosed that a school teacher took direct physical
action to stop an armed individual during a recent critical incident, according
to information released by local law enforcement.

## Teacher Intervenes to Halt Suspect

According to Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz, as reported by NBC News, an educator
confronted the suspected shooter directly during the encounter. Chief Krantz stated
that the teacher fought the suspect and managed to tackle him, utilizing her cell
phone as an improvised projectile by throwing it at the assailant during the struggle.

Physical intervention by staff during active threat situations is rare, as standard
safety protocols generally instruct school personnel and civilians to evacuate or
shelter in place if possible. However, law enforcement officials indicated that
the educator’s rapid actions in this instance brought the suspect down directly
at the scene.

## Connection to Silver Rail Elementary

Police have identified a victim associated with the incident as Griffin J. John
II. According to investigators cited by NBC News, John was a former student who
previously attended Silver Rail Elementary School, a public elementary school located
in Bend.

Authorities have not yet released specific details regarding John’s current age,
medical status, or the exact nature of the injuries sustained during the event.
Furthermore, officials have not clarified the precise location where the confrontation
occurred or whether the incident transpired directly on school grounds during operating
hours.

## Investigation Remains Underway

Bend police underscored that the investigation remains active and in its preliminary
stages. Several key details have not been made public, including the identity of
the suspected shooter, the motive behind the confrontation, and the specific type
of weapon utilized in the incident.

Law enforcement agencies typically withhold certain operational details during the
opening hours of a violent crime inquiry to ensure witness statements can be independently
verified. Investigators are continuing to examine evidence and conduct interviews
related to the incident, and local authorities are expected to release further details
as the investigation progresses.
