A recent exchange between the Nigerian presidency and the Nigeria Democratic Congress(
NDC) has brought the health of presidential candidate Peter Obi into the public
spotlight. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and
Strategy, issued a critical response following reports that the former Labour Party
presidential candidate was suffering from physical exhaustion.

## The Context of the Health Reports

The discussion began when Dr. Sam Omale, the Deputy Campaign Spokesperson for the
NDC, addressed concerns regarding Obi’s well-being during an interview on Channels
Television. Dr. Omale sought to clarify the nature of Obi’s condition, stating that
the candidate is in good health but has been struggling with fatigue due to an intense
political schedule.

According to Dr. Omale, Obi’s commitment to his campaign activities involves constant
travel and the management of multiple simultaneous tasks. Dr. Omale noted that these
demands have left the candidate with minimal time for rest, leading his team to
actively encourage him to prioritize sleep and recovery. He emphasized that there
is no underlying medical condition causing the exhaustion.

## Government Response

Bayo Onanuga responded to these reports via a post on his X handle on Tuesday. In
his statement, Onanuga criticized the narrative surrounding Obi’s health, suggesting
that the situation serves as a reminder of the candidate’s human limitations. Onanuga
remarked, “So, Saint Peter Obi is not a Superman after all. He can fall ill like
all mortals.”

Onanuga concluded his statement by offering a wish for a quick recovery, while simultaneously
characterizing the NDC’s current political efforts as a “doomed presidential campaign.”

## Political Implications

The exchange highlights the often-combative nature of political discourse in Nigeria,
where the health and stamina of candidates frequently become points of contention.
While the NDC maintains that the exhaustion is a byproduct of a rigorous campaign
schedule, the presidency has utilized the reports to challenge the image of the
candidate. As of now, no further medical details have been provided by the NDC,
and it remains unclear how this brief public dispute will impact the ongoing campaign
activities of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

### Summary

The public debate underscores the pressure placed on political figures during election
cycles. While the NDC attributes the situation to a demanding workload, the presidency
has framed the incident as a critique of the candidate’s political viability. Both
sides remain firm in their respective positions as the campaign continues.

  TL;DR (AI Generated)

Bayo Onanuga criticized Peter Obi's health after reports emerged that the former
presidential candidate was suffering from physical exhaustion due to his demanding
campaign schedule.

While the Nigeria Democratic Congress clarified that the fatigue stems solely from
overwork and a lack of rest, the presidency used the situation to challenge the
candidate's invulnerability.

This public exchange highlights the combative nature of Nigerian political discourse,
where a candidate's stamina frequently becomes a point of intense contention.
